FNX, Power Corporation donate $1 million each to LU

FNX Mining Company and Power Corporation of Canada are giving $1 million each towards Laurentian University's Next 50 Campaign.

FNX Mining Company and Power Corporation of Canada are giving $1 million each towards Laurentian University's Next 50 Campaign.

“Laurentian is the go-to resource for research and employees for companies like FNX,” Terry MacGibbon, chairman and CEO of FNX, said in a press release.

“The caliber of research and graduates it produces has made all the difference in FNX's ability to succeed and thrive. This gift ensures Laurentian will be able to continue its tradition of training geologists and engineers with the knowledge and skills to hit the ground running when they enter the workforce.”

The gift from Power Corporation of Canada is earmarked for graduate fellowships.“We are pleased to build upon the long-lasting relationship between the Desmarais family, Power Corporation and Laurentian University,” Gerard Veilleux, president of Power Communications Inc., said.

Laurentian's Next 50 Campaign has now raised $32 million of its $50 million goal.

“Investing in Laurentian University will increase opportunities for students to drive innovation through their knowledge, research and future employment, to the betterment of Greater Sudbury and northeastern Ontario,” Dominic Giroux, president of Laurentian University, said.
