Grand River Enterprises reacts to OCAT

On this website on April 12, 2010, we published an item called “Children buying contraband cigarettes”. It was a report on a release issued by the Ontario division of the Canadian Cancer Society (“OCAT”) saying that more than 60,000 Ontario students from Grades 7 to 12 are buying contraband cigarettes.

In its release, OCAT said that some of the cigarettes it was talking about were the brands “DKs” or “Sago”. Those brands are made by Grand River Enterprises Six Nations Ltd. which has responded to OCAT by saying its cigarettes are not contraband and it does not engage in any business activities that are illegal or harmful to the public and in particular to young adults and teenagers.
