On June 19, the Northern Cancer Research Foundation and the Blue Knights Ontario X will be hosting the 10th Annual Prostate Cancer Motorcycle Ride for DAD.

This 120 km ride departs from the Regional Cancer Program (RCP) on Ramsey Lake Road at 11 a.m., and travels throughout Greater Sudbury.

The Blue Knights is a non-profit international fraternal organization consisting of law enforcement officers and their families who are motorcycles enthusiasts.

The Prostate Cancer Motorcycle Ride for DAD was developed to increase awareness and raise funds in support of prostate cancer research and patient care at the RCP.

This year’s event will attract a host of motorcycle groups, including Canadian Motorcycle Cruisers, Chariots of Light, The Harley Owners Group, Freedom Riders, Sudbury Wings, Southern Cruisers, as well as individual riders.

June 14-20 has been officially proclaimed Prostate Cancer Awareness Week by Mayor John Rodriguez.

Prostate cancer is the most common form of the disease amongst Canadian men, according to a press release from the Northern Cancer Research Foundation (NCRF).

On average, one in seven men will develop prostate cancer during his lifetime, mostly after age 60. One in 27 men will die from it.

For more information about the event, phone 523-4673.
