École Ste-Marie in Azilda was recently awarded the Schools on the Move designation by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

“This special provincial prominence confirms the quality of the school strategies that were implemented to support continuous student performance improvement,” stated a press release from the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO), which runs the school.

“Ste-Marie is the only francophone school in northern Ontario among 33 schools in the province to have earned this coveted distinction.”

Led by principal Raymond Joanisse, École Ste-Marie has stood out in student performance improvement during the last few years, the preses release stated.

Teachers implemented various measures, such as the creation of a student tutoring program in reading.

“The entire Ste-Marie school team should be proud at having earned the Schools on the Move designation,” Marcel Montpellier, CSCNO president, said in the press release.“This success story will soon appear in a Ministry of Education publication and will serve as an example to schools elsewhere in Ontario.”

“The winning practices deployed by École Ste-Marie have proven their value and, in the coming years, will be of benefit to other schools that also want to improve the performance of their students. We are pleased to be able to promote the excellence of our staff and share our success at the provincial level,” Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSCNO director of education added.
