Construction is now underway for the wheelchair-friendly home of Cpl. Bill Kerr, who lost both legs and his left arm while serving in Afghanistan.

Kerr’s wife Tracy and his daughters Zoe, 10, and Abigail, 6, say they look forward to moving onto the five-acre property located on Nickel Offset Road in Chelmsford. The trio took part in an official ground-breaking ceremony Monday morning.

The Home For a Hero project has raised $260,000 toward the building and furnishing of the home, aided in part by the Hike for a Hero fundraiser held last October.

Photos and news regarding the house will be available for viewing at www.homeforahero.ca. Donations are still being accepted through the website or can be dropped off at the RWDSU Union Centre, 230 Regent St. in Sudbury.

  • A great big thank you to the team at RDSWU and others who started it all.

  • I would like to thank our friends, family and our community for coming together and helping our family through these past years. It has been a difficult one, and we know it isn't over.
I would like to point out that I, Tracy Kerr am the Step Mother of Zoe and Abigail. It seems that many people ASUME that I am their mother. I am their step mother and proud of it. It makes me upset to know that when I begin and tell that I am the stepmother, the papers only hear what they want. PLEASE LISTEN!!! It is very important you hear all the details.
You may cause pain to someone if you get this wrong. ( welcome to the media world is what some people may say)
Please listen to our Veterans and hear the story's from Past, Present. There will be a big event in Azilda this weekend. Please go and spend some time with these Heroes.
Ask them where they fought and what has changed since then? You will hear some GREAT stories about some very courageous and brave men. We need to educate ourselves and stand up for them as they did for us. That would show them our support.
Freedom isn't free and all wounds are not visible.
Thank you for your support, it is greatly appreciated.

  • Hey, this is Canada. The government does NOT help CANADIANS!!!! Send a huge portion of our tax dollars to other countries but don't help any of our own. This will never change. Put a turban on your head, then you will see results!! Our criminal government at work again. We should be so proud of them.

  • Cpl Bill Kerr fought for us all and our Government can't even show some gratitude by building this soldier a house to accommodate him after the injuries he suffered defending our country. i say Shame Shame Canada for not looking after our soldiers.
Happy to see that someone took it in their own hands to provide well deserved home for Cpl Bill Kerr and his family.
