Almost $5 million in funding has been injected into the Sudbury Regional Hospital, according to an announcement made Aug. 26.

The hospital will receive $4,004,400 in additional base funding, $500,000 in post-construction operation plan funding, a $400,000 one-time investment to support additional neurosurgery procedures, and $60,835 in one-time funding to help cover the cost of the H1N1 flu assessment centre in fall 2009.

"These investments will help to ensure patients are getting the care they deserve," Rick Bartolucci, MPP for Sudbury, said in a press release.

Sudbury Regional Hospital has received more than an $80 million increase in base funding since 2003.

"With an expanded facility, new equipment and increased funding, we can now offer a greater level of service to patients across northeastern Ontario," Dr. Denis Roy, CEO of the hospital, said.

Hospital funding across Ontario has gone up $3.5 billion since 2003, a 31.3 per cent increase.

"Hospitals are one of the cornerstones of our health care system," Bartolucci said. "We will continue to work with our hospital partners and Local Health Integration Networks to ensure that the health care needs of Sudburians are met."

  • Almost laughable!
I know someone who was scheduled for a hysterctomy August 09,2010 and was sitting in her hospital gear from 7:30am until 12:30pm, when a nurse walked up to her and said that the surgery was cancelled as there was no bed for her after the surgery. So, she was sent home. The surgery was re-scheduled for August 30, 2010(today). It will be interesting to find out if she was sent home again! Rick Bartolucci makes the following comment: "Hospitals are one of the cornerstones of our health care system," Bartolucci said. "We will continue to work with our hospital partners and Local Health Integration Networks to ensure that the health care needs of Sudburians are met."
You sure as hell will not have my vote or that of the woman who sat nervously awaiting major surgery only to be told to go home! Along with the many others that have undergone such things since the "Sudbury Regional Hospital" has opened its doors and closed the other hospital! Way to go Rick Bartolucci and John Rodriguez you have made the citizens of this city so darn proud! Idiots!!!

  • Imagine that! In an election year, all of a sudden the provincial government finds money that it didn't have when it underfunded Ontario hospitals below the cost of operation and clawed back performance funding that couldn't be accomplished because of the ALC situation they've left the hospital twisting in the wind with for several years.

Then, to add insult to injury, the people struggling to provide services at levels the public expect are forced to grin and bear it like the Liberals have just given them a gift, because if they don't, the battle axe with the big hair and Il Duce will screw them next time they decide to play Santa Clause.

Don't be fooled when it's time to mark your ballot.
