Summer construction continues on Greater Sudbury Aug. 29 to Sept. 4. For more information about traffic delays and road construction and repairs, contact the city at 3-1-1.

Paris Street

Traffic will be using southbound lanes between Elm and Kathleen Streets as of Aug. 30, and there will be intermittent lane closures between Brady and Elm streets for paving.

Lasalle Boulevard

The city asks motorists to use caution and slow down when bypassing construction through side roads.

A sanitary sewer replacement will cause overnight closures at the intersection of Lasalle Boulevard and Barrydowne Road. The area will be down to one lane in each direction beginning at 6 p.m. each evening and going until 6 a.m.

Falconbridge Highway

Major work on the 39 km stretch of Falconbridge Highway between the Kingsway and Skead Road is complete, and minor finishing work, such as line painting, is scheduled to complete in the near future.

Additional road Construction

The rehabilitation of the Elm Street Bridge, an underground structure that spans Elm, Paris and Lloyd streets, is on schedule. The work is expected to be complete in early October.

The resurfacing of Kathleen Street between Frood Road to the railway tracks, and from MacKenzie Street for about 550 metres is expected to complete in two weeks.

Municipal Road 80 in Hanmer and Val Thérèse between Frost Avenue and Glenn Street will see lane reductions as storm sewers are installed and repaired. A culvert is also being replaced. The sidewalk on the south side is also scheduled to be replaced.

Lloyd Street, between Mathew and Mont Adam streets, will be reduced to one lane on Aug. 30 from 8 p.m. to midnight for Bell Canada maintenance work.

The westbound curb lane of Lorne Street, between Elm Street and Kelly Lake Road, will be closed intermittently up to Sept. 3, as fibre optic cables are installed. The closures are limited to off-peak hours.

RibFest will cause the closure of Elgin Street between Durham and Larch streets between Sept. 2-6. Grey Street will also be closed Sept. 4-5, and Durham and Larch streets reduced to one lane. The area is closed to vehicle traffic only.

Panache Lake Road will be down to one lane in both direction for culvert and repair work. Work begins at the Marina and moves toward Municipal Road 55.

Walter Street in Coniston remains closed between William Avenue and Cook Street for bridge repairs. Desmarais Road bridge in Hanmer is reduced to one lane for repairs.

West Bay road in Skead will be down to one lane about 7.6 kilometres from Skead Road for culvert replacement.

Canon Street is closed to through traffic for water main and sanitary sewer main removal and replacement. Local traffic access will be available.

  • oh road thinghy...well its rodriquez final year, of course hes gonna try and fix some roads, after all wasnt that what got him elected in the first place...and you guys all voted for him...and before him it was that courtemache guy wasnt it...you guys keep voting like this and nothing will ever get done in this town. stop voting in the morons and bus drivers and teachers to do a job only a business man knows how to do. once you do that maybe the whinning will subside about the roads.

  • Well no one ever accused this city engineering department to be a smart bunch of guys and girls. In fact most of them are like everyone else in tom davies square...dumber then a bag of hammers....If I was everyone in sudbury this election year, I wouldnt be voting for the people who were popular or favorite this year, but would rather be voting for the most successful business man in each ward and especially for the mayors race. Would you rather vote for some nincompoop or for at least someone who knows where to make cuts and where to spend money, maybe then 500 thousand wouldnt get spent on such things as a survey for wind turbines for the sudbury area. And just maybe tax dollars will be spent on infastructure instead of culture thingys and green thingys. Hate to tell most folks about this but green thinghys are the greatest hoax ever to be played on mankind...3 out 5 scientists agree....the other 2 out 5 scientists are directly funded by green thinghys.

  • Exactly, Johnboy.

Shutting down a major intersection (Brady @ Paris) at high noon on a weekday...SMART I mean SMRT.

Or maybe leaving the merge left sign up for a week after construction has been completed. After causing traffic to slow and merge only to find out the merge wasn't actually needed because construction has been completed. Or how about incompetent traffic control personal...the list goes on.

  • I don't think it's so much b!tching about getting them fixed, it's more about the lack of strategy and the time it's taking to do the work. Seriously, paving was supposed to be completed on Paris well over a month ago. This was announced on the radio. Suddenly there were "delays" and 5 weeks later the pylons are still up. Combine that with every other major artery seeing some sort of roadwork and very few alternate routes and it's pretty easy to get frustrated. Why can't the city start and complete one project before moving on to another rather than start every project at once and drag them all on for eternity?

  • You people are unreal. B...h about the condition of the roads, then b...h about finally getting them fixed.

  • Sudbury road construction report should read like this;

If you are planning to leave your residence in an automobile you're FU*K*D. Please leave atleast 24 hrs in advance if you wish to get anywhere on time.
