A new $5 million student residence at the Collège Boréal campus opened on Aug. 24, and will make a small dent in the housing problems facing its post-secondary students.

Up to 70 students can be housed at the new 21,097 square foot residence, which is attached to the residence built in 1995. It will share the kitchen, laundry and student centre with the older residence, which can house up to 68 students.

Each unit in the new residence has two bedrooms, a kitchenette with a fridge and microwave oven, and bathroom. The units are equipped with lines for internet, television and telephone.

The units are also build to accomodate students with mobility requirements.

"We hope to benefit, more than ever, from a building which emphasizes the natural resources which are found in our region as well as the latest innovations in construction materials," Denis Hubert, the college's president, said in a press release.

  • Fund Raising such as this should be common practice amongst college students. We shouldn't wait till problems arise before making these calls. College is about learning. Be wise in life, prepare for change. Because it doesn't end there, it starts there.
Plus it's a fun way to put community money to work positively.
