Ten fallen soldiers, including Greater Sudbury’s Private Andrew Miller, were honoured Nov. 9 by Ontario premiere Dalton McGuinty.
Miller and Master Corporal Kristal Giesebrecht were killed this past June when the vehicle they were travelling in struck an improvised explosive device. McGuinty presented Tribute to the Fallen plaques to the families of the 10 soldiers, who were killed in Afghanistan, or while on duty in Canada.
“Today we stand with the families and friends of those who gave their lives so that others may have hope and opportunity,” McGuinty stated in a press release. “We stand in remembrance of these heroes, and we offer our profound thanks for their service and sacrifice.”
A total of 150 soldiers, firefighters, and police officers have been honoured with the Tribute to the Fallen. The tribute was created in 2006.
Besides Miller, Giesebrect, Sapper Brian Collier, Sgt. John Wayne Faught, trooper Corey Hayes, Capt. Richard Steven Leary, Lt. George Maurier, trooper Larry John Rudd and Pte. “Tyler” William Todd were honoured at the ceremony in Toronto.
