More than $1 million from the Apprenticeship Enhancement Fund will be used to upgrade training equipment and shop facilities for multiple industrial trades including the welding, machining and millwright programs. The college will receive more than $3.7 million through the Co-op Diploma Apprenticeship Program, allowing participants to pursue both diploma courses and apprenticeship in-school training for a related skilled trade.
This fall, 255 students will earn both a college diploma and a certificate of qualification in a skilled-trade. Hands-on training courses available are Truck and Coach Technician (new), Powerline Technician, Industrial Electrician-Electrical Engineering Technician and Technology, Metal Fabricator-Welding and Fabrication Technician, Industrial Mechanic Millwright-Mechanical Engineering Technician, Heavy Duty Equipment Technician and Heavy Equipment Technician-Techniques and Motive Power Technician. Student job success rate upon graduation is 90 per cent.
