The Ministry of Labour has issued nine stop-work orders as it investigates the June 8 death of two miners at Vale's Stobie Mine.

Thirty-five-year-old Jason Chenier and 26-year-old Jordan Fram were killed when an unscheduled run of “muck” came down an ore pass and overtook them on the 3,000 foot level.

Both Chenier's and Fram's funerals are taking place today (June 13). Check back to NorthernLife.ca for coverage of their funerals.

Ministry of Labour spokesperson Matt Blajer said all the stop-work orders, which were issued June 10, are related to the No. 7 ore pass at the mine's 3,000 foot level, where the “muck” overtook the workers.

“The orders were issued basically all around the accumulation of water,” he said. “The water has got to be cleared up and (it has to be) determined what the source of the water is.”

He said the ministry is working with Greater Sudbury Police, Steelworkers officials and Vale on the investigation.

“I know that this one is a priority (case),” he said.
