The “newly-rebuilt” Grace Hartman Amphitheatre will host its first event, the Northern Lights Festival Boréal, from July 8-10, according to a press release from the city.

The reopening of the amphitheatre was originally scheduled for July 2 and 3, but has been postponed “to allow for final touches to the new amphitheatre and to focus on the preparations for the Northern Lights Festival Boréal.”

According to the press release, the festival is the “longest-running folk festival in Canada,” and will showcase a number of performers, including Ron Hynes, J.P. Cormier, Broken Social Scene and Patricia Cano.

The city's manager of arenas will also book outdoor concerts at the ampitheatre throughout the summer. The first two confirmed concerts are Blue Rodeo and Melissa Etheridge. Check www.greatersudbury.ca for information on the dates, times and costs for these concerts as they become available.
