The province is providing a property tax exemption for the Maison Vale Hospice, as well as an increase in base funding.
In the 2011 Ontario budget, the province committed to giving the hospice a property tax exemption. A press release put out by Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said the move will save the facility “thousands of dollars per year in operating costs.”
The $320,000 increase in funding for the hospice will bring its total budget from $580,000 to $900,000 for this fiscal year. With this boost in support, Maison Vale Hospice will be able to provide additional nursing and personal support services to the patients they serve, the press release said.
“By providing this added funding and by providing an exemption to property tax, more money will be directed to patient care,” Bartolucci said, in the press release.
“This funding will help staff provide patients and families with the best and most compassionate care.”
“This additional funding and property tax exemption will stabilize funding for our hospice,” Léo Therrien, executive director of Maison Vale Hospice, said. “It will go a long way to ensure excellent care for our residents and their families.”
