Cambrian honours outstanding employees

Cambrian College employees who received President's Awards for Excellence were honoured Aug. 24 at Rendez-vous, an annual event for employees that recognizes milestones, retirements, and special achievements.

The following award winners were honoured:

President’s Award for Excellence – Outstanding Service Category

Sheila Geraghty Grech joined Cambrian College as a full-time faculty member and coordinator of the newly-approved Diagnostic Medical Sonography – Ultrasound program in 2010.

Nominated for the award by the first graduating class of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers, Grech has distinguished herself as someone who goes above and beyond to help students succeed, according to a press release from Cambrian. She is also playing a leadership role in gaining accreditation for the new program.

President’s Award for Excellence – Support Staff Category

In her 32 years at Cambrian, Lynda Morgan has established herself as an expert analyst in IT, the press release said. She has developed creative solutions for faculty, staff and students to complete business, access information, and process transactions.

She has very high standards for her work, which often exceeds expectations. She is known for her integrity, intelligence, tact, and professionalism, according to the press release.

President’s Award for Excellence – Faculty Category

Jean-Guy Robichaud is a professor and program co-ordinator of the Baking and Pastry Arts program. Since 1994, he has been engaging students and helping them to reach their potential.

He is known for mentoring students—even travelling with as they compete at national competitions—and for sharing his extensive culinary knowledge and experience. A certified chef, he is currently working on his Master of Arts in Tourism Management at Royal Roads University in Victoria, B.C. His award was presented to him at the May convocation ceremonies.

President’s Award for Excellence – Team Category

The iCan team consists of 17 faculty and support staff members, who created Cambrian’s first-ever iCan Creative Gala. Held in February, the interactive event showcased creative careers in art and design, culinary arts, music, theatre, and communications.

The evening highlighted the talents of Cambrian students in diverse programs, the press release said. More than 175 people attended, including, teachers, students, guidance counsellors, and members of the public.

The event was also covered in the local media, and gained a lot of attention through a social media campaign.

Members of the iCan team include: Ron Beltrame, Charlene Biggs, Kim Coates, Kim Donaldson, Natalie Goudreau, Sean Grant, Jessica Grillanda, Natalie Guindon, James Munro, Richard Neufeld, Gord Nicholls, Bill Radunsky, Jean-Guy Robichaud, Ken Salah, Debra Sampson, Kelleen Shonfeldt, and Jennifer Tincombe. The Award was presented in June at the College’s annual Team Day event.

“Cambrian is proud to recognize each of these individuals for their continuing commitment to be their best, and for inspiring us all to do the same,” Cambrian president Sylvia Barnard said, in the press release.

“I would also like to thank those who took the time to nominate their colleagues, showing Cambrian’s team spirit and our support for each other. It’s truly a pleasure to present these awards every year to such deserving recipients.”
