Families working harder, bringing home less: Labelle

Despite working harder than ever before, Sudbury families are taking home less and less, according to Sudbury Progressive Conservative candidate Gerry Labelle.
Despite working harder than ever before, Sudbury families are taking home less and less, according to Sudbury Progressive Conservative candidate Gerry Labelle.

Under the (Liberal candidate Rick) Bartolucci/(Premier Dalton) McGuinty government, Sudburians have seen their hydro rates increase eight times, making them 84 per cent higher than before, Labelle stated in a press release.

“We have seen the implementation of an expensive health tax that now costs Sudburian families an additional $450-$600 per year. We have seen the introduction of the secret Eco-Tax, a simple cash grab by the province of $33 million from Ontario consumers alone, while only reducing consumption by two per cent.”

The introduction of the HST gave Bartolucci and McGuinty a $3-billion-per-year tax grab, with HST on hydro bills resulting in up to $1,000-per-household increase alone, Labelle said in the press release. This is only a snapshot of Liberal decisions that have a direct impact on our wallets, he added.

“Here is the reality: The Bartolucci/McGuinty government has chosen to tax, tax and tax Sudburians to help cover the costs of their inability to manage a budget,” Labelle said.

“They have proven over the last eight years that they are unable to balance a budget, and they have proven time and time again that when they fail, they will simply reach into the Ontario taxpayer’s wallet to bail themselves out.”

Labelle said his Liberal counterpart frequently says that “the best predictor of the future is the past.” Under a Bartolucci/McGuinty government, Ontario has seen financial mismanagement, extraordinary waste, and false comments designed to divide and instil fear in the voters, Labelle said.

“Can we really trust a Bartolucci/McGuinty government with the future of our province?,” he asked.

On Oct. 6, local families will have a choice between a government that utilizes fear tactics to scare and divide the population, that taxes its citizens whenever they need to cover their own financial mismanagement, and who simply reinvent history to satisfy their needs, or a Labelle/Hudak government that will respect the working families of Sudbury, Labelle said.
