Excavation to uncover the site of a 36-inch water main break will reduce Paris Street to one lane in each direction this weekend, from Ramsey Lake Road to Centennial Drive.

Work will begin at midnight Oct. 14, according to a press release from the City of Greater Sudbury.

Motorists will be redirected into northbound lanes. Police will direct traffic at the Ramsey Lake Road intersection.

Motorists travelling to and from Sudbury’s South End are advised to take Regent Street this weekend. Signs will be posted on Paris Street at the Walford Road and York Street intersections advising of the alternate route.

If repairs proceed as anticipated, all lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. Oct. 17, the press release stated. The city will issue an update should it become necessary to extend the duration of the lane closures.

The site of the water main excavation will be covered with a temporary asphalt patch. The materials used to fill the excavation must be allowed to settle over the winter to avoid an uneven road surface in the future.

The temporary asphalt patch will be removed and if necessary, additional fill will be added to the excavation next spring. Permanent paving will be completed at that time.

Residents in the vicinity are asked to check water for clarity prior to starting washing machines and dishwashers this weekend and on Oct. 17.

If discoloured water or low water pressure persist, residents are asked to dial 3-1-1 for municipal services.
