In a $3.3-million deal between Laurentian University and the city, Market Square was sold to make way for the university’s future, 75,000-square-foot School of Architecture.

The sale of Market Square was contentious from the very start, with vendors raising concern over the future of their businesses. As such, an advisory panel has been formed to look at a number of options for the relocation of Market Square.

The panel, made up of representatives from a variety of groups including vendors and city councillors, has until the end of March 2012 to present their suggestion to the city.
