A Manitoulin-area man has been charged with nine counts under the Ontario SPCA Act, and could be looking at two years in jail, a lifetime ban from owning animals and up to $60,000 in fines after the SPCA rescued “many, many” rabbits from his property.

“These sweet animals were living in poor conditions and without food (and) water,” Tracy Lapping, an SPCA agent, stated. “They were neglected and not receiving proper care.”

Now that the animals have been nursed back to health, the SPCA is looking for “loving homes that can provide them with the proper care they deserve.”

Anyone interested in adopting a rabbit or finding out more about the SPCA can phone 705-566-9582.
