Overnight parking bylaw in effect, city advises

By: Sudbury Northern Life Staff

Overnight parking on city streets is banned until March 31, the city reaffirmed.

The bylaw prohibits parking on roadways and laneways between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. Commercial vehicles and trailers exceeding two tonnes are banned from parking on any roadway or laneway between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

This overnight parking restriction is enforced seven days a week, the city stated. Motorists parked in violation will be ticketed and the vehicle may be towed if it is impeding snow plowing or snow-removal operations.

  • The challenge with this, especially in the downtown, concerns patrons of entertainment establishments - restaurants, bars, etc. If you find yourself have a drink or two and decide not to drive, you risk getting your car towed or a hefty parking ticket. The other alternative, much worse, is you decide to drive. Perhaps a overnight pass should be considered - given to potential drivers by the business they are enjoying - to display in their car stating that they've made the choice to not drive home...?

  • I have an old neighbor, this bylaw is his favorite thing to do in life, he just can't wait to call the cops, takes his walk at midnight to scope the neighborhood
