The event took place Jan. 26-29 at the T.M. Davies Community Arena in Lively.
The proceeds go towards cancer research and programs in northern Ontario.
“This has been our most successful fundraising event to date, and we will keep on fundraising for cancer research and programs as long as cancer keeps affecting our community,” Wayne Tonelli, president of Miners for Cancer, said.
To help with fundraising efforts, Miners for Cancer held a raffle draw, and throughout the days leading up to the hockey challenge, board members and participating hockey players took part in selling tickets.
The draw took place on Jan. 28. The winners were:
1st Prize – 2012 Polaris RZR
Craig Freise, South Porcupine
2nd Prize - $5,000 Sell Off Vacations Trip Voucher
Derek Greer, Kirkland Lake
3rd Prize – 50” Panasonic 3D Plasma HDTV
Paulette Engler, Waterloo
Miners for Cancer started in 1996, and has since organized annual inter-mining industry hockey tournaments and golf tournaments to raise funds for cancer research.
