A number of Grade 7 and 8 students from schools run by the Rainbow District School Board will participate in the Sudbury Regional Science Fair at Laurentian University April 14-15.

The students won the honour of competing at the regional level following the Rainbow District School Board's annual Elementary Science Fair held at Lockerby Composite School March 6.

Sudbury Regional Science Fair projects will be selected for the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island May 12-19.

Rainbow District School Board chair Doreen Dewar congratulated all science fair participants and extended best wishes to students as they move forward.

“Every significant discovery in the world began with an idea, and that idea, through research and investigation, led to innovations that improved our quality of life,” Dewar said.

“Every year, I am amazed at the depth and the breadth of the research that is carried out in all areas – be it earth sciences, the environment or engineering.

“The projects are a tribute to the ability of our young scientists to let their natural curiosity guide them as they observe, question and explore the world around them. We wish students continued success as they vie for a chance to compete nationally.”
