Members of the horse-racing industry held a demonstration near Tom Davies Square on March 23 to thank city council for supporting their fight against the cancellation of the Slots at Racetracks program.
Earlier ths week, council unanimously voted in favour of a motion to petition the province to maintain its operations of OLG slots at Ontario racetracks and that it retain the sharing of slot revenues with the Ontario Horse Racing Association and facility owners.
Council plans to take its message to the 16 other municipalities that play host to racetracks and slot machines.
Thousands of horsemen from across Ontario plan to travel to Queen's Park on March 26 to rally in protest of the program's elimination.
