Cliffs Natural Resources CEO Joseph Carrabba publicly stated May 1 that an announcement about where the company will build its ferrochrome processing facility is “days away.”

Carrabba made the statement at a Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business luncheon in Thunder Bay, according to media reports.

Cleveland, Ohio-based Cliffs has used Capreol as the base case for the ferrochrome processing facility, but has not yet announced where the facility will be located.

The Thunder Bay area, along with other areas of northeastern Ontario, have also been campaigning for the facility to be located in their communities.

“Obviously, we're not going to be able to please everyone,” Carrabba is quoted as saying in tbnewswatch.com. “If we can't work it out, we can't work it out.”

The facility, which could be in place sometime in 2015, would process ore from Cliffs' Black Thor chromite deposit in the Ring of Fire area, which is located in the James Bay coast region.
