Teranorth and the Ministry of Transportation will be finalizing contract arrangements over the next several weeks before formal award can be confirmed.
The project involves construction of a 13-kilometre stretch from three kilometres north of the Highway 607 intersection southerly to 4.5 kilometres north of the Highway 64 intersection. Construction will soon be underway and is anticipated for completion in August 2016.
“When the Ontario Liberals formed the government in 2003, we discovered not one penny had been invested into the four-laning of Highway 69 from Sudbury,” Bartolucci said in a news release. “Today’s announcement is another indicator of our strong, steadfast commitment to this project. The safety and economic prosperity of our residents has always been our inspiration. Today, we again move the yardsticks toward completing this mammoth project.”
Teranorth Construction was created from a father and son partnership in 1993. The combination of construction experience, sound engineering and core group of dedicated and loyal employees has developed the company into a major Ontario Contractor today, according to the company's website, teranorth.com.
The local company's list of accomplishments includes projects from municipal infrastructure in Sudbury, tunnels under Highway 11 in Engleheart, a water treatment plant in Chapleau, a sewage lagoon in Manitoulin Island, bridge rehabilitations in Fort Francis, Atikokan, Deux Rivieres, Chalk River, Nipigon, bridge replacements in Timmins, Temagami, Webbwood, and rock blasting in Wawa, Kenora, just to name a few.
Recently Teranorth was successful with a tender for the first section of four-laning of Highway 11/17 between Nipigon and Thunder Bay. Teranorth will be building new twin bridges at Mackenzie River in Thunder Bay. Teranorth was also successful with a tender for Highway 11 four-lane construction at Burk's Falls including an interchange at Ontario Street. Teranorth is also currently working on municipal infrastructure in Parry Sound, as well as a bridge replacement in Opasatika and highway reconstruction in Nobel, Gogama and Latchford.
The Highway 69 project is an initiative is part of the Open Ontario plan.
“Once the contract is awarded, construction of this stretch of highway is expected to create more than 650 jobs,” Bartolucci said. “Our government continues investing in highway infrastructure as a way to create new economic activity and jobs in our community and throughout the province.”
