With support from Investor’s Group and Re/Max Sudbury Inc., the Sisu: Assisted Living for Sudbury’s Seniors Capital Campaign has launched the Sisu Sorsa Lucky Duck Dash raffle.

The fundraiser, which has been run by the Rotary Club of Sudbury Sunrisers for the past 18 years, will see employees of both firms, along with Finlandia Village staff and volunteers selling 10,000 raffle tickets.

Each numbered ticket has a corresponding rubber duck. On Sept. 29, the ducks will be released into the creek in Korpela Park and will race to the finish line.

“The SISU Sorsa Lucky Duck Dash that we launch today is about many things,” Brian Koivu, president of the Sudbury Finnish Rest Home Society and senior advisor at Investor’s Group, said in a press release.

“It’s a race event on Saturday, September 29th, the support of our presenting sponsors from Investors Group and Re/Max Sudbury, the selling of 10,000 tickets towards a prize board of $13,000 and some fun.”

The first place duck earns the ticket holder $10,000 in cash. Second place wins $2,000 and $1,000 for third. Tickets are sold for $5 each or a “flock” of five tickets for $20.

Tickets are available for purchase from Investor’s Group and Re/Max Sudbury staff, at local malls, retailers, festivals and at Finlandia Village.

The Race Day event will feature a BBQ, entertainment and games for the whole family.

“A full sellout will raise in excess of $20,000 in support of the SISU Capital Campaign, which is well on its way to achieving its goal of raising $3 million,” Koivu said.

Chaired by Gerry Lougheed, Jr., the Sisu: Assisted Living for Sudbury’s Seniors Capital Campaign is raising $3 million to build an 82-unit affordable assisted living residence and wellness centre at Finlandia Village.

Anyone interested in more information on purchasing - or selling - raffle tickets can contact Finlandia Village at 705-524-3137, ext. 249.
