Subsidy covers 50% of flood prevention measures for homes at risk

The City of Greater Sudbury offers a preventative plumbing subsidy to property owners at risk of flooding of their basements as a result of sewer backup during heavy rain or snow melt.

The program pays half of the cost of buying and professional installing a backwater valve and/or sump pit drainage system, up to a maximum of $1,000 for a backwater valve and $1,250 for a sump pit drainage system.

Subsidies are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible residents with properties located in identified flood-prone areas of the city.

Conditions for eligibility and application forms are available online at www.greatersudbury.ca and at Citizen Service Centres in Capreol, Chelmsford, Dowling, Garson, Hanmer, Lively and Sudbury.
