Drivers with Greater Sudbury Transit showcased their skills during the annual "roadeo" held at the transit garage on June 21.

Competitors worked their way through an obstacle course made up of orange pylons, tight turns and a pedestrian pick-up area.

City transit driver, Mina Aziz, looks forward to the event each year.

“It’s a fun day to see our co-workers and it’s a competition,” he said. “We see who can get through it the fastest without knocking over any pylons or hitting the curb.”

Top drivers from Sudbury will move on to compete against North Bay’s best in September. From there, the drivers with the highest scores will compete for Northern Ontario Champion.

According to Ward 2 Coun., Jacques Barbeau, chair of the city's operations committee, Sudbury drivers win the competition regularly.

“Our drivers just excel at these competitions year after year,” he said. “We’re pretty proud to have some of the best drivers in northern Ontario right here in Sudbury.”
