LU researchers receive cash from province

Four Laurentian University researchers recently received a total of $199,504 from the province to purchase state-of-the-art tools and invest in new facilities.

These research projects are:

-Sample Preparation and Screening Study for Fundamental Studies in Analytical Toxicology and Molecular Genetics – James Watterson - $55,359.00

-Completion of the Growth Chamber Facility at the Vale Living with Lakes Centre to Support Restoration Ecology and Climate Change Research – John Gunn - $41,060.00

-Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) for Mineral Processing Applications - Turgut Yalcin - $60,182.00

-CryoVent – Low or zero carbon cryogenic ventilation for mines - Dean Millar - $42,903.00

“We’re proud of the exceptional work happening in Sudbury,” Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said, in a press release.

“It is exciting that the discoveries made by researchers right here in our community have the potential to improve the lives of people around the world.”

Bartolucci said Ontario's economic growth starts with investing in talent and ideas.

“We’re partnering with talented researchers who are doing cutting-edge work that could lead to exciting discoveries while creating new jobs and fostering local economic growth.”
