Rainbow District Animal Control and Shelter Services has circled Aug. 18 as the date for its next adopt-a-thon and open house.

The event gives residents a chance to adopt a cat or dog for the cost of only a $15 licence or the cost of the spay or neuter, because the shelter will waive the normal adoption fees. The previous two adopt-a-thons were met with resounding success with several dogs and cats finding new homes, according to Richard Paquette.

“We will have several beautiful, friendly, playful and healthy fixed and vaccinated adults looking for homes,” Paquette said. “We have had a steady stream of visitors, many just to take advantage of the open house and tour the shelter.”

The shelter is located at 411 St. Agnes St. West in Azilda. The open house and adopt-a-thon gets underway at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m.

Anyone interested in adopting a pet or a tour of the animal shelter is welcome to attend. A free barbecue and refreshments will also be available.
