Handouts have been prepared for Sudbury, Kirkland Lake, North Bay, Parry Sound, Sault Ste. Marie and Timmins and are available on the North East Community Care Access Centre website at www.ne.ccac-ont.ca or from each client’s case manager.
The six documents feature general information on accessing long-term care, and the various assessment categories for placement, according to a news release from the CCAC. Specifically, families will find average wait times for long-term care homes in their area, based on accommodation type (basic, semi-private, and private), and the total number of people waiting for long-term care in their area.
“Making the decision to move a parent or loved one into a long-term care home is never easy, and there are many different factors to consider,” Richard Joly, CEO of the North East CCAC, said. “We hope that by providing access to this type of information, families will have one more tool at their fingertips to help them find an appropriate long-term care home in their community.”
While the handouts will be updated monthly, wait times vary and often change on a daily basis. As a result, families are encouraged to continue to work with their case manager for support in decision-making and assistance with the application process.
As key health-care system partners, the North East Local Health Integration Network (NE LHIN), the North East CCAC and area hospitals are working together on a number of initiatives to help facilitate an individual’s transition from one level of care to another along their health care journey.
“People need to have access to information in order to make the best care decisions for themselves or their loved ones,” Louise Paquette, CEO of the North East LHIN, said. “Making wait time information publicly available is the right thing to do and we applaud the CCAC for their efforts.”
On any given day, the North East CCAC co-ordinates care and provides support to more than 16,000 clients and caregivers throughout the region. To access its services, call 310-CCAC or go to www.ne.ccac-ont.ca.
