Three host families are still needed to take in youth with Canada World Youth.

Some may call it acting locally, thinking globally.

Others may say it's investing in tomorrow's leaders. Or perhaps the most appropriate way to say it is “three months you won't forget.”

Through Canada World Youth, nine Ukrainian and nine Canadian youth will be spending time in Sudbury, volunteering and learning about education and health, community development, biodiversity, agriculture and information technologies.

Gerald Ratt, project supervisor, is currently looking for families interested in welcoming these youth to their homes.

“Host families” are responsible for giving you adults aged 17 to 21 a place to live and family they can integrate into.

Interested families will be responsible for housing youth from Sept. 10 to Dec. 1.

“Family,” according to Canada World Youth, can include singles, retired couples, single parents and anyone else with a genuine curiosity of the world. Back-up host families are available in the event of an emergency. Participants have all undergone a rigorous selection process and agree to abide by program rules.

Participants are to be treated as family, not as guests, and take part in the family, according to Ratt.

Host families receive $180 per week for welcoming two participants. Additional costs are covered by Canada World Youth.
