Carpooling parking lots, often referred to as park-and-ride, are being established throughout the city in an effort to make carpooling a more convenient and viable option for commuters, said the City of Greater Sudbury's EarthCare initiative.

A park-and-ride allows users to drive their own vehicles to the designated location, meet their carpooling partners and leave their vehicle for the day without incurring additional costs for parking.

Each vehicle must display a dashboard parking pass which are available through EarthCare Sudbury by emailing EarthCare@GreaterSudbury.ca or 705-674-4455 ext. 4398.

Spaces are limited and they are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Current carpooling parking locations are as follows:
-Place Bonaventure Mall
-Carmichael Arena (Bancroft Dr., Sudbury)
-Centennial Community Centre/Arena (Hamner)
-Chelmsford Community Centre/Arena
-Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex (Sudbury)
-Dr. Edgar Leclair Community Centre/Arena (Azilda)
-Garson Community Centre/Arena
-I.J. Coady Memorial Arena (Levack)
-McClelland Community Centre/Arena (Copper Cliff)
-Raymond Plourde Arena (Val Caron)
-T.M. Davies Community Centre/Arena (Lively)
-Toe Blake Memorial Arena (Coniston)

Carpooling helps save money for parking and gas, reduces gas emissions that contribute to greenhouse effect and pollution and reduces wear and tear on your vehicle. By helping people find a riding partner, EarthCare is helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and traffic congestion.

Visit Sudbury's carpools site at https://greatersudbury.carpoolzone.ca to register for free and to find colleagues and neighbours also looking to share a ride to and from work.

EarthCare Sudbury Action Plan is the city's Sustainability Plan and is one of the planning documents that guide the strategic thinking of the City of Greater Sudbury.

It includes more than 180 recommendations for the city and community partners on how to make Greater Sudbury a cleaner, greener, healthier and more sustainable community.
