Sudburians are being asked to donate their scrap metal goods during the month of October in an effort to a raise money for local cancer care at the Northeast Cancer Centre.
The campaign begins with a kick-off Sept. 29 from 12-3 p.m. at Ramakko's Source for Adventure.
The public is invited to come out and enjoy an afternoon of food, music and entertainment while dropping off unwanted metal scraps in the collection bins provided.
During the month of October, Sudburians are asked to help spread the word and encourage others to donate at these locations:
-BM Metals Peddler Yard, 1 Foundry Rd., at the end of Lasalle Boulevard, near Falconbridge Highway
-Ramakko's Source for Outdoor Adventure, 2345 Regent St.
Pick-up service is available by phoning the Northern Cancer Foundation at 705-523-4673.
BM Metals spearheaded the campaign in 2010. Each October, the fundraiser encourages individuals and businesses to donate any scrap metals, such as old lawn mowers, barbecues, bikes, cars and aluminum.
In addition, BM Metals will drop off a bin, free of charge, at businesses willing to participate and take up the challenge of donating the most scrap metal.
Since its inception, the fundraiser has collected more than $50,000 which has directly supported cancer care services and research conducted at the Northeast Cancer Centre in Sudbury.
