The Coniston Community Action Network has been hard at work constructing a section of the Trans Canada Trail in their backyards.

A volunteer group has been raking, cutting, planting trees and collecting garbage to make an accessible trail that is friendly towards walkers, wheelchairs and strollers.

The pathway, built with assistance from Rainbow Routes Association, the city and the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, will connect the west end of Elm and the north end of Edward with the north end of Rideau.

On Oct. 12, the Coniston CAN is celebrating the official opening of the trail. The community is invited to gather at the Elm Street trail entrance at 11:30 a.m.
