A $50,000 infusion of cash from FedNor will help the Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario continue its efforts supporting Francophone arts, culture and heritage.

FedNor Minister Tony Clement announced the funding on Oct. 15.

The investment enhances “the vitality of official language minority communities while protecting and creating jobs in Northern Ontario,” Clement said.

The $50,000 funding will enable Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario and the partner organizations of the Regroupement des organismes culturels de Sudbury, to prepare a business plan and feasibility study aimed at finding shared economic opportunities that focus on Francophone arts, culture and heritage.

“We are pleased that the Government of Canada is supporting our efforts to create a strong, vibrant Francophone business sector in Northern Ontario,” said Geneviève Pineault, Théâtre du Nouvel-Ontario artistic director.

Funding for this project is provided through FedNor’s Economic Development Initiative (EDI) in support of official language minority communities.
