Both Health Sciences North's Diabetes Care Services and the Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre are hosting open houses Nov. 14 in honour of World Diabetes Day.

A press release from Shkagamik-Kwe said roughly nine million Canadians are living with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Those over the age of 40 with high blood pressure and cholesterol are at risk of developing diabetes.

The Diabetes Care Service's open house takes place from 12-7 p.m. on the second floor of the Sudbury Outpatient Centre (former Memorial Hospital).

Shkagamik-Kwe's open house also takes place from 12-7 p.m.

This open house will include cooking demonstrations, lifestyle and fitness activities, diabetes risk assessment, relaxation and meditation techniques, activities for children, with diabetes educators on site all day.

A free shuttle service will be provided between the Diabetes Care Service and Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre.

For more information, phone the Diabetes Care Service at 705-671-6601 or Shkagamik-Kwe at 705-675-1596.
