Cambrian College and the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) have established a new annual bursary for engineering technology students.

The endowment was created through a $10,000 donation from OACETT and a matching contribution through the Ontario Trust for Student Support program (OTSS).

OACETT is currently working with Cambrian to grow the endowment fund to $40,000 in order to sustain a $1,000 annual award in perpetuity.

The endowment is part of OACETT’s broader capital campaign to celebrate 25 years of OACETT’s bursary program by endowing 25 funds at 25 colleges across Ontario.

“OACETT’s generous support will help Cambrian grow a student awards program that already distributes over $375,000 every year in scholarships and bursaries,” said Cambrian president Sylvia Barnard, in a press release.

“Cambrian’s Engineering Technology students will have access to a bursary that will provide them with much-needed support during their school years and will help them become part of industry’s, and Canada’s, future.”

The $1,000 will be awarded to one full-time Cambrian College student enrolled in year one, two or three of an OACETT-recognized engineering or applied science technology program who best exemplifies the key precepts related to integrity and professionalism in the practice of engineering technology.

“We are very proud to partner with Cambrian College and we look forward to working with the college to grow this bursary fund” said Richard Stamper, OACETT’s business development manager.

“This investment in student support will cultivate home-grown expertise to meet local and global demands for engineering technology professionals now and into the future.”

OACETT is a non-profit, self-governing, professional association of approximately 24,000 members who are dedicated to excellence in the engineering and applied science technology profession.

OACETT promotes the interests of engineering and applied science technicians and technologists in industry, educational institutions, the public and government.
