It’s getting chili

The Sudbury Action Centre for Youth (SACY) served a chili lunch in support of the Raising the Roof Campaign Nov. 20. For $10, supporters received a bowl of vegetable or meat chili and a Raising the Roof toque.

The Sudbury Action Centre for Youth (SACY) served a chili lunch in support of the Raising the Roof Campaign Nov. 20.

For $10, supporters received a bowl of vegetable or meat chili and a Raising the Roof toque.

Eighty per cent of the proceeds go toward local programs offered at SACY, which provides counselling, housing and recreational activities for homeless and at-risk youth. The remaining 20 per cent will go to the national campaign.

Twenty-four-year-old, Dave Raymond, has been going to the SACY for almost four years and volunteered to serve chili outside the centre located at 105 Elm St.

“I love being a part of it.” Raymond said. “When I first came here I was near homeless. I stumbled upon this place in the phone book and I’ve been thankful ever since.

It’s prevented me from being left out on the street.”

Raising the Roof toques are available for purchase until the end of February at the SACY office, 105 Elm St. across from Comics North.
