The city is looking for citizens to become part of its municipal boards and advisory panels.

According to a media release from Greater Sudbury, the city “benefits greatly from the contributions of residents who provide advice, information and expertise to the municipality.”

Roles needing to be filled include:

-One citizen to be appointed to the Committee of Adjustment/Sign Variance Committee. This person will be empowered to grant relief from all zoning and sign bylaws, in respect to all land situated in the City of Greater Sudbury. Members of the committee receive $74.10 per meeting.

-Two citizens will be appointed to the Community Development and Growth and Development and Sport Tourism Advisory Panel. They will focus on the business of sport tourism and maximize the economic impact of hosting sport-related events in Sudbury. Appointed citizens will serve on a volunteer basis. To be eligible for either role, citizens must be residents of Greater Sudbury, be an owner or tenant or the spouse of an owner or tenant of land in Greater Sudbury, be a Canadian citizen and be at least 18 years old.

Someone is also required to be a “private director” on the Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc. Board

“Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc. is a subsidiary of Greater Sudbury Utilities Inc.,” the city stated. “As both are regulated monopolies, it is their mandate to deliver electricity reliably and cost effectively within their service territories. The Board of Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc. governs one local distribution company and must be at least one-third independent from the GSU Board. Private Directors receive $4,000 per annum.”

The city said preference will be given to candidates in Greater Sudbury or the municipality of West Nipissing; however, non-residents are welcome to apply.

Deadline for applications to the committees, boards and advisory panels is Jan. 18 at 4:30 p.m. It is a policy of council that citizen appointments be representative of local demographics and geographic areas.

To apply, visit www.greatersudbury.ca and search “public notices,” request a form by mail by phoning 705-674-4455 ext. 2471 or visit the Office of the City Clerk at Tom Davies Square, or a citizen service centre in Capreol, Chelmsford, Dowling, Garson, Hanmer and Lively.
