The provincial government is providing $24,000 to the Sudbury and District Health Unit towards an additional practicum placement for a public health inspector student.

“Through our public health unit, we work to build healthy and supportive communities by promoting and protecting health and preventing disease,” said Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci, in a press release.

This placement will provide an opportunity to expand the student’s knowledge, experience and technical skills related to the Health Protection and Promotion Act while carrying out the duties and responsibilities related to the delivery of applicable Ontario Public Health Standards to communities throughout the Sudbury District, the press release said.

“These practical field experiences, which are mentored by certified public health inspectors, are invaluable to the professional development and academic success of inspectors in training," said Dr. Na-Koshie Lamptey, associate medical officer of health, Sudbury and District Health Unit.

"These are win-win opportunities for the Health Unit to contribute to the development of public health inspectors and recruit these skilled and responsive professionals."

“Our government is pleased to support this practicum placement for a public health inspector in our community,” Bartolucci said. “It will provide experience and opportunity for ensuring the health and safety of our residents.”
