Since the beginning of the school year, students and staff have donated 149 units of blood. The donations are through the Canadian Blood Services’ Young Blood for Life program.
“This is a tribute to our staff and students who continue to donate blood to save lives,” said Lockerby Composite School Principal Heather Gaffney. “We have encouraged everyone to participate in blood donor clinics and give the gift of life. I would like to commend teachers Ian Gray and Paul Hatzis for their ongoing leadership of this campaign.”
Young Blood for Life challenges high schools to recruit students, teachers, their families and friends to donate blood.
According to Canadian Blood Services, young donors represent nine per cent of all blood donations.
“Our impressive results are a reflection of the caring students and staff at Lockerby Composite School,” said Principal Gaffney.
“We will continue to support blood donor clinics and lead by example for other schools in our community and across Canada.”
