In just under six weeks, B&D Manufacturing managed to collect more than half a tonne of food for the Sudbury Food Bank.

“We’re really pleased,” said general manager Andre Ruest. “Our employees are caring people, and they know the importance of helping families in our community. I’m very proud of the B&D team.”

The company launched the food drive in mid-December. It was intended to be a Christmas initiative, but staff organizers decided to extend the campaign into January.

“The community Edgar Burton Food Drive was a huge success,” said Mike Murphy, B&D’s manager of environmental health and safety. “Because the food bank’s shelves start running low by February, we thought it would be a great idea to keep collecting food into the New Year.”

Employees at B&D Manufacturing contributed 1,410 pounds of food, which was collected by Sudbury Food Bank representatives Dan Xilon and Adam Brown during the company’s monthly staff barbecue.

“We’re looking forward to continuing this initiative all through 2013,” said Murphy, “and we encourage other businesses to do the same.”
