With a freezing rain warning in effect for Greater Sudbury, police are urging motorists to be extra cautious when driving, and ensure speeds are decreased and following distances increased.

Precipitation continues over Northeastern Ontario in association with a low pressure system approaching the region, according to Environment Canada. Snow, at times mixed with ice pellets, ahead of the low will change to brief periods of freezing rain and then to rain this morning.

By this evening colder air will arrive and the precipitation will change back to snow. A few centimetres are expected for some locales before the snow ends.

Greater Sudbury Police Services suggest that non-urgent requirements to drive be postponed.
