Registered charities, legions, licenced daycare nurseries, owners of vacant commercial or industrial property, and other eligible residents are reminded that the deadline is approaching to apply for rebates and credits on final 2012 property taxes.

Applications for tax rebates and credits must be received by the City of Greater Sudbury's tax department no later than Feb. 28, 2013, said the city.

Residents who have been assessed for properties that should be exempt, residents who believe they have been assessed at an incorrect tax rate and residents who believe a significant clerical error has occurred on their property assessment are also eligible to apply for a rebate or refund by the Feb. 28 deadline.

Residents 65 years old and over may be eligible for an elderly tax assistance credit in the 2013 tax year. To qualify, residents must be age 65 as of Dec. 31, 2013, be the recipient of the Government of Canada's Guaranteed Income Supplement and meet other criteria under the municipal bylaw.

Full details to determine eligibility for tax rebates and credits are available by calling 311 or by visiting the city's website at greatersudbury.ca.
