The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, in partnership with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), is celebrating the Family Day Long Weekend with its new 2013 Try Our Trails Permit program.

The 2013 Try Our Trails Permit is available online at no cost and valid only from 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 16 until 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 18.

This program is available by registering online at www.ofsc.on.ca, completing the Try Our Trails Permit application form and printing out a permit valid for the Family Day Long Weekend only.

With an expected increase in the volume of snowmobilers this weekend, members of the Greater Sudbury Police Service traffic management unit have partnered up with the District-12 Snowmobile Trail Officer Patrol (STOP) unit to increase patrols on the local snowmobile trails to ensure people are enjoying the trail system in a safe manner.

On Feb. 16 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., these officers will be set up in Hanmer at the intersection of Trail No. 51 and No. 55 where they will be available to speak with the public about issues relating to snowmobiling and snowmobile safety.

They will also have a free hotdog roast for snowmobilers along with non-alcoholic beverages and treats.

GSPS snowmobile patrol and District-12 STOP unit officers invite members of the public to stop by, have lunch and ask questions pertaining to snowmobile legislation and safety.
