There's a new publication in Sudbury and it's all about sports.

Sports Life magazine hit the streets today. Cover to cover, the magazine delves into the local sports scene, bringing together the accomplishments of athletes from young to old, from house leagues right to the international ranks.

Launched under the Sudbury Living Magazine Group, Sports Life will be published six times a year.

Abbas Homayed, publisher of Sports Life, has spent the past dozen years following his daughters' sporting endeavours.

"I couldn't help but notice there was a huge gap in sports coverage in our city," he said. "It's hard to cover all the sports in this city with one sports reporter and only a couple of pages of newsprint to lay it all out on, or a six-second blip on the evening news.

"With more than 55 organized sports played in this city annually, only a fraction of them are getting the attention they deserve."

According to Homayed, Sports Life — the city's first sports magazine — is the voice the sports community needed.

"It is an inclusive sports magazine about everyday people and seasoned athletes. It is community sports reporting at its best and we are proud to bring it to Greater Sudbury."

Laurel Myers, the former sports editor of Northern Life, has stepped into the role of managing editor of Sports Life.

"Sudbury has so many fascinating sports stories to tell and so many dedicated athletes, coaches and volunteers who make those stories possible," she said. "I'm honoured to bring those stories together and celebrate them with the community in the pages of Sports Life Magazine."

Pick up a free copy of the magazine at local community centres, arenas, curling clubs, ski hills, golf clubs and select sports retailers. To catch up on the latest sporting news, visit sportslifemag.ca, "Like" the magazine on Facebook and follow @Sports_Life_Mag on Twitter.
