Local 2020 ratifies deal with First Nickel

Steelworkers Local 2020 members voted 92 per cent in favour of ratifying a contract with First Nickel on May 3.

According to an email from Steelworkers staff representative Marc Ayotte, the contract includes “improvement in language and monetary.”

He added that the contract is a “win-win for both in ensuring the longevity of the mine,” and that both sides were very reasonable and understanding during negotiations.

Local 2020 represents about 20 workers at First Nickel, including technicians, geologists, first aid/security, buyers and warehouse personnel.
