During Cambrian College’s 45th convocation ceremonies last week, three graduates were honoured for their academic excellence and contributions to the Cambrian community.
The President’s Gold and Silver Medals are awarded annually to two graduating students who have combined academic excellence and technical ability with a significant contribution to college life.
The Gold Medal is accompanied by a scholarship valued at $2,000 and the Silver Medal by a scholarship valued at $1,500.
This year's Gold Medal winner is Angelica Garcia-Hennings.
Garcia-Hennings is a graduate of the Public Relations program who has devoted countless hours to the betterment of the College and the community.

An extremely dedicated student and varsity athlete, she was also an enthusiastic ambassador for the college, welcoming potential and incoming students through student events and recruitment activities, a pres release from the college said.
Known for her ever-present smile, Garcia-Hennings has done an exemplary job balancing the academic demands of a challenging program with a rigorous athletic training schedule and extensive volunteer commitments.
The Silver Medal winner is Sarah Luzak.
Luzak is a graduate of the Medical Laboratory Technology program. She is an outstanding leader with a passion for helping others and deep commitment to her field of study, the press release said.
A student representative for her program, Luzak devoted tremendous time and energy to the betterment of her program and the students enrolled in it.
She was also a peer tutor and acted as an ambassador for the college, speaking to high school students and helping to promote her program and future profession through Medical Laboratory Technology Week and Patient Safety Day.
The Governor General’s Academic Medal is awarded each year to the graduating student with the highest average.
Paul Ricker is a graduate of the Mining Engineering Technician program. He graduates with a 97-per-cent average.
During his two years in the program, Ricker was an exemplary student who regularly helped others with their course work and sparked stimulating discussions in classes and labs, the press release said.
Ricker spent last summer employed as an acting engineer at a remote northern mine site and met the challenge with enthusiasm. He is continuing his education at Cambrian this fall, in the Mining Engineering Technology program.
