The tornado warning for Greater Sudbury ended Sunday evening, but the severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect.

Environment Canada reports that the tornado danger has passed through this area, but thunderstorms are still a possibility tonight.

Emergency Management Ontario recommends if extreme weather does strike, residents should go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet.

Environment Canada continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates. Anyone who wants to report severe weather, can send an email to [email protected].

A severe thunderstorm watch, which had been lifted earlier Sunday, was issued again at 9 p.m. It warned that rain, including hail the size of toonies and wind gusts of up to 90 km/h, could be headed toward Sudbury.

“Meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms that is capable of producing large hail to two centimetres in diameter and damaging wind gusts to 90 km/h or greater,” the weather service warned in a release. “The storms extend from north of Kirkland Lake to 50 kilometres north of Elliot Lake and are moving southeast at approximately 50 km/h.”
