As part of their community service efforts, Grade 7 and 8 students at Sudbury Christian Academy have raised funds to adopt an orphaned African elephant named Ajabu.

Ajabu was rescued through the services provided by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and nursed back to health.

The Sudbury Christian Academy students sold more than 200 bags of popcorn to friends, family, and neighbours to raise the money necessary to support Ajabu.

The project was meant to help broaden students’ perspectives to consider the impacts of poaching and globalization, and to care for all of God’s creatures.
